Conewago Township Supervisor Election
Candidate Joel Buckley on the Issues
Super Pay Raise –
In 2005, the
Supervisors voted to triple their base pay. Supervisor Brandt did not vote against the pay raise. Joel Buckley will vote to repeal the pay raise.
Special Interests -
In 2005, the Supervisors appointed 4 individuals each representing a MILLION DOLLAR PLUS business or real estate interest to the Conewago Municipal Authority —interests directly affected by decisions the Authority makes. Joel Buckley will name people who represent the interests of the citizens, not real estate and business interests, to the Authority Board.
Land Use Planning -
In 2003 and 2004, Joel Buckley led the fight against a big government regional planning group that wanted to zone farm land for monster warehouses and have higher density residential zoning. Supervisor Jay Brandt wanted to stay with the regional planning group. Joel Buckley will update the township’s Comprehensive Plan to promote farmland preservation and restrain development.
Conewago Township Supervisor Election
Who is the Other Candidate?
Why should I care who is township supervisor? - The decisions supervisors make impact your pocketbook and your quality of life. Their decisions concerning sewer service have or soon will cost 350 Conewago households up to $9000 each ($5000-6000 tap fee, $3000 plumber fee, and $396/yr). Supervisors’ decisions also influence the rate of commercial and residential development.
Jay Brandt - Jay is a dairy farmer who has been on the Board of Supervisors for 30 years. If you live in Conewago and don’t have an opinion of Jay Brandt, you probably don’t vote in township elections. Jay and I agree on more issues than not. But in the last two years Jay has not been effective in restraining the excesses of fellow Supervisors. On the supervisor pay raise, on reappointing Ralph Luttrell to the municipal authority, on the $30,000/year part-time administrator, Jay abstained rather than voting “No”. Sometimes just voting “No” is the best decision to make! Now the voters can just vote “No” to good-old-boy, politics-as-usual in Conewago Township.
Buckley will name people who represent the interests of the citizens of the township, not real estate and business interests, to the Conewago Municipal Authority Board.
Buckley led the fight against a regional planning group that proposed rezoning farmland for warehouses. He would update the Comprehensive Plan to promote farmland preservation and restrain development.

To request a yard sign: Email: Disappearing Signs:
(05/11/2007) I have to report that in the past few days over one third of the Buckley for Supervisor yard signs have been stolen right out of people's front yards. It saddens me to think that there are people in Conewago who have so little respect for the law, for private property, and for the right of each voter to support the candidate of their choice. I would hope I don't need to say this, but I ask that none of my supporters even think of taking down signs of other candidates.
